How it all got started

On a recent morning (9/4/03) at about 11:15, Mr. Tea called in to the Pam Stone Show on Charlotte, NC's WLNK 107.9FM in response to a topic they were discussing about "secret indulgences", meaning things you do that you don't want just EVERYONE to know about.
He called in to tell about how he is the "stage mom" to the Sweet Tea Queens and went on to tell Pam about the whole Queens movement, how it's based off of Jill's books, the way they dress and what they do. He told her about the Million Queen March in Jackson and plugged Jill several times. She kept him on the air for nearly 5 minutes, being very interested in the whole thing. He told her of our parade in Hendersonville on Labor Day and that we had been on the front page of the Tryon, NC Daily Bulletin newspaper when Jill came there on the book tour. This is relevant because Pam broadcasts remotely from her home just outside of Tryon.

TeanaKimmyNan and TeanaNicole were listening on the radio and called in themselves. KimmyNan went on to say how she is a "genuine Sweet Tea Queen" and how no one can take her tiara away and again Pam was fascinated and kept KimmyNan on for almost 5 minutes. Then after the call, Pam went on to talk about how she wanted her own tiara and how she would wear it during her broadcasts. Kimmy called back and they put her on AGAIN and she told Pam that we would give her a Genuine Sweet Tea Queens tiara. Pam squealed with delight on the air. She then told listeners that she would keep up with us and mention our events and such.
In case you are not familiar with Pam Stone, she was a star in the TV series "Coach" a few years back and is a stand-up comic in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. She lives near Tryon where she operates a  farm and grew up in the south.
WLNK "The Link" is a 100,000 watt FM station in Charlotte, NC that is the number one adult rock station in the area and their signal reaches 100 miles in every direction. Jill was interviewed by their morning hosts Bob & Sheri when she was in town last.
