The Tea girls sashayed on the scene this afternoon to an effervescent crowd! We were interviewed by a camera crew, the Sandlapper magazine, and the local newspaper (again!(sigh)). The paper is planning on covering the Secret Ball. The band on the stage nearest us started playing disco at one point so BSTQ with TeanaLisa and TeanaJanice behind, strutted on over and began dancing to "Brickhouse" right in front of the stage. The song ended and the band dedicated the next song "You Can Leave Your Hat On" to the girls! They "modified" the lyrics to mention taking off the "green dress" and leaving your "crown" on. The girls had more than a few onlookers and one woman got up to dance with them. At the end of the song, the band asked, "Are you Sweet Potato Queens?" and they responded that they are Sweet TEA Queens. Applause. They walked back towards the booth and were told by a big time FM radio station (WESC 92.5) that the morning DJs would be talking about them between 7:15 and 7:30 Monday morning. We had many wannabes come up and express interest, and a number of folks that said they had read the article in the paper. BSTQ cemented the sponsorship by The Beacon with the owners, and all in all we had a blast.
